products for your mini glow getter
I had my second child just last week and while I was initially writing this post, I was sitting at my kitchen table having my hair blowdried by my favourite, Romina from Ruuby App before going in for induction the following morning. More to come on our beautiful baby girl and her birth story coming soon!
In the meantime, over the past few weeks I have been finalising the baby room, turning my guest room into a little piece of baby sanctuary along with organising her clothes and most importantly products for her wellness routine. When I say wellness routine… yes… babies do have a wellness routine, from bathing, nursing and sleeping there are so many products that assist with these all important factors in their daily lives. I thought it would be useful to create a list of products I have tried and tested before on my first child and also have stocked up this time along with some new products that I am going to fit in.
WASHING YOUR NEWBORN
Firstly, when should we first wash our newborn babies? Well with my first, Mouse, we waited over a week, I think around 10 days. Babies do not come out dirty, the vernix caseosa (a waxy like coating on the newborn’s skin) is literally the best multi-functional skincare product ever, it is a natural moisturiser, cleanser and a great protection against infection. So the longer it is on your newborns skin the better…also bearing in mind they have been so cosy inside your tummy all warm it is important to help maintain body temperature. Washing her face, head and hair (if she has some, both of mine came out with a full head!) with some warm water and cotton and/or a reusable bamboo cleansing pad is a perfect way to freshen them in the first few days.
TOP BABY PRODUCTS FOR THE MINI GLOW GETTER
Once back at home from the hospital it’s time to nestle in and get into the swing of things both mama and baby. Nothing better than having some helping hand products…so here are some of my must-have baby skin care products for your mini glow getter:
1. MUSTELA BABY CLEANSING WATER
This product is one of my favourites especially for any milk spills around the neck or for daily cleansing of the skin. It comes with a useful pump and refreshes your babies skin perfectly without any irritation. I use a few pumps on a reusable cuddle cloth (before it was cotton pads - click here for more sustainable swaps!) around the body or wherever needs a quick freshen up.
This product not only smells divine but is just such a wonderful versatile product to lather everywhere onto babies skin either post bath or too be honest any time of the day. It was also great for cradle cap, I rubbed some on mouse’s head and used a proper cradle cap brush to massage it in.
3. WELEDA WHITE MALLOW NAPPY CREAM
So I was suggested this by a maternity nurse and she strongly advised me not to use sudocrem unless nappy rash is present. Mouse never got nappy rash and I chock it up to this amazing nappy cream from Weleda. You never need lots of product, it is the perfect consistency and keeps nappy and/or sensitivities at bay.
4. Water Wipes
The lifesaving wipe for mother, child, baby and the whole family. They are so much more moist than other wipes out there… they have also been highlighted on my sustainable swaps since the past few years they have worked on being 100% biodegradable.
5. LITTLE AURELIA LONDON SLEEP TIME PILLOW MIST
Such a lovely scent for both yourself and baby to promote calm and a good sleep if only for a few hours in the beginning…. Eeeeek!
Products i’ll be adding with baby no. 2
This gentle and calming bath soak is formulated to maintain skin’s natural softness with ingredients like Almond Flower Extract, Chamomile and Sweet Almond oil.
2. DR BARBARA STURM BABY SHAMPOO
This shampoo is a soft foaming cleanser that has been formulated to gently wash your baby's skin, hair, and scalp. I love the cute packaging of the baby line by the brand too!
3. CLARY COLLECTION ALL PURPOSE BALM
This is a product that has been in my routine over the past few years but I am yet to try on a little one. It’s gentle formulation its nourishing ingredients are great and multi-functional.
I could write a list 10x longer than this but for now it’s time to get back to nestling in with our newest addition and enjoying her first few weeks in the world. Sending love to each and every one of you and as always, send me a DM, drop a comment below or email me at stephanie.abri@icloud.com with any products, treatments and beauty spots around London you’d like to see reviewed!
